The most expensive car in the world is now the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Series 1 where the asking price is $41 million U.S. dollars. This asking price can anytime buy 30 units of standard Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Coupe which costs $1.3 million each. Somehow it makes the Bugatti Veyron looks cheap. How on earth somebody offer to sell the Ferrari at this sky high price? Well, there are reasons behind. Just few months ago, Bloomberg reports that a green color 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO built for Sir Stirling Moss has been sold for $35 million, making it the most expensive car in the world. Now in December, six months after the $35 million deal, here comes a red one with $41 million price tag.
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Series 1 – Most expensive car in the world?
The Ferrari 250 GTO Series 1 needs no further explanation as it is well-recognized as the greatest Ferrari ever built for racing. There are only 29 Series 1 GTOs ever built and the on putting up on sale is one of the 22 left-hand-drive versions. The car is powered by a 3.0-liter 128F Colombo V-12 engine pumping 300 hp with the ability to bring the car up to the top speed of 170 mph. Under the hood, six 38 DCN Weber carburetors is fitted to the aluminum engine together with magnesium cam covers. The combination of the exterior, power, and overall design make the 250 GTO widely regarded as one of the most wanted cars ever made. Earlier in February 2012, a 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO has been sold for $32 million U.S. dollars. Well, if these three GTOs sit together, it will be $108 million dollars gathering.

In May 2010, a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic is said to be sold for a record $30+ million. The Bugatti has been holding the title of “World’s most expensive car ever sold” until the $32 million sales happened. In fact, there are only four Bugatti Type 57SC were ever made. One of them is now owned by the famous fashion designer and business executive, Ralph Lauren.
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
Three years ago in 2009, a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa commands a record $12.2 million at the annual Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event. During that time, the deal was known as the most expensive car ever sold at auction. The Scaglietti-bodied Ferrari has only 22 units and they were built in Maranello in between 1957 and 1958. The sales of this Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa shy of 2008’s event where a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT in California was sold for $11 million.
In 2007, the La Marquise, which is widely regarded as world’s oldest car, is sold for $3.52 million at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. In 1987, a 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8.7 million. Is there really a thing called recession?
