Ralph Lauren Car Collection (Part 2)

This is part 2 of Ralph Lauren Car Collection, to see part 1, go to 17 Cool Cars from Ralph Lauren Car Collection. In first part of the rare car collection, we have seen 1938 Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic, 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK “Count Trossi”, Ferrari 375 Plus and some other sporadic automobiles. 11. 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO

Giotto Bizzarrini and Sergio Scaglietti are the designers of the renowned Ferrari 250 GTO. Only 39 were produced in between 1962 and 1964. Under the red hood, it features a Tipo 3.0-liter V12 engine producing approximately 300 horsepower. As for the top speed, the Ferrari 250 GTO is capable to accelerate from 0 to 280 kph. It is a very reliable sports car made by Ferrari. It is also one of the most expensive cars of all time.

12. 1964 Ferrari 250 LM

The 250 LM (standing for “Berlinettta Le Mans”) is another red Ferrari found in Ralph Lauren Car Collection. Thanks to its V12 engine that fed by 6 carburettors, it is able to propel up to 295 kph. The Ferrari 250 LM is also fitted with a 5-speed gearbox. Just like the Ferrari 250 GTO, it is designed by Scaglietti. Only 32 of Ferrari 250 LM were produced. At a 2008 auction, a Ferrari 250 LM secured a price tag of $6.9 million.

13. 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

The Jaguar XK120 Roadster is a sports car build by Jaguar that in between 1948 and 1954. The “120” in the name referred to the car’s top speed at 120 mph (193 kph). It is a straight 6 cylinder 3.5-liter engine with twin overhead camshafts giving 180 CV. There were 12,055 Jaguar XK120 were made but Ralph Lauren’s model is only limited to 6 in this world as it has aluminium bodywork.

14. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing”

Whoever loves cars will know the 300 SL “Gullwing”. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” has a pair of distinctive doors. This supercar is equipped with a Mercedes-Benz straight 6 cylinder 3.0-liter engine pumping 222 horspower. It is the first-ever production car with fuel-injection system and also the world’s fastest top speed car of its time. The top speed? 260 km/h (161 mph) in 1950s.

15. 1958 Jaguar XKSS

The 1958 Jaguar XKSS found in Ralph Lauren Car Collection is in silver. If you do notice, most of the Ralph Lauren’s cars is either in red or silver. Most important, most of them has magnificent victories in Le Mans 24 Hours or other racing events. Speaking about the power of this 1958 Jaguar XKSS, it uses a straight 6-cylinder 3.4-liter engine pumping 250 CV with an approximate top speed of 250 kph.

16. 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB

The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB has a shorter wheelbase compared to the 250 GT version. It is equipped with disk brakes and a 276-horsepower engine. The car combines low weight, high power, and superb suspension. Without doubt, the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB is one of the greatest Ferraris of all time. Only 176 examples were built and Ralph Lauren’s car was the 31st example.

17. 1996 McLaren F1 LM

The one-seat McLaren F1 LM (LM standing for “Le Mans”) is the newest car among 17 cool cars from Ralph Lauren car collection. Without surprise, it is the fastest as it is equipped with a powerful V12 6.1-liter engine from BMW pumping 691 CV. From 0 to 131 kph, it takes only 5.9 seconds. Ralph Lauren’s 1996 McLaren F1 LM is painted in Papaya orange color. Again, there is only 5 McLaren F1 LM were produced so not everyone who has load of cash stand a chance to own it.

Top 10 Chinese Car Brands

Over the years, we have seen the growth of Chinese car companies. Some top Chinese car brands have entered the road in America. Many legendary car brands and marques were purchased by car companies in China. For example, MG Rover Group were purchased by Nanjing Automobile Group, one of the oldest car manufacturers in China. Correspondingly, we have also seen China car makers are rebuilding a few iconic cars such as the iconic Mini Moke. Other than the look, the mechanicals for the new Mini Moke are all Chery components from Chery Automobile Co Ltd, a state-owned car company and also seventh-largest automaker in China.

Great Wall Motors was founded in 1984 and headquartered in Baoding, Hebei, China. Changhe, officially Jiangxi Changhe Autombile Co Ltd, is one of the renowned Chinese car companies based in Jiangxi province, China. It is a subsidiary of BAIC Group, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd but it also has a few best-selling cars which are Changhe Ideal 2, Changhe Ling Wang and Changhe Haitun.

10. Zotye

Zotye was established in 2005 in Zhejiang province, China. Zotye 5008 was the first car released by Zotye in 2008. Since then Zotye released a few more cars such as the Zotye M300 in 2009, Zotye Z100, Zotye, T200, Zotye T600, Zotye V10, Zotye Z500 and more. To be honest, some of these features are innovative and practical in certain situations but somehow they just appeared once and then disappeared forever.

1. Highway Hi-Fi Phonograph

Starting in 1956, the Highway Hi-Fi Phonograph was offered to a few popular cars such as Chrysler, Dodge, DeSoto and Plymouth. The name “Highway Hi-Fi” is referring to a built-in record player manufactured by CBS/Columbia. It was considered a very high-tech features in the mid 50s although the roster of artists available were limited.

2. Rotating Front Seat

The 1961 Buick Flamingo features a rotating front seat where you can revolve it to 180 degree. This allow you to sit face to face and talk to passengers at the back. It feels like sitting in a train, isn’t it?

3. Swing-a-way Steering Wheel

The 1961 Ford Thunderbird features a notable T-bird swing-a-way steering wheel. This is definitely a brilliant idea for easier entry and exit for the driver especially those who has a big belly. Perhaps Mercedes-Benz should consider this features for the newest S-Class?

4. Canvas Dog Sack

The 2010 Honda Element features a Dog Friendly Package that costs $995. In 1935, you can get a canvas dog sack to carry your dog wherever you go. It fits neatly on the running board on most of the old cars. Fortunately, it was never featured on any car.

5. Water-balloon bumpers

There are no such things as airbags back in old times, however, there are water-balloon bumpers. Water-balloon bumpers are one of the weirdest old car features. They are built to collapse and absorb energy force when accident happens. During that time, many vehicles were equipped with water-balloon bumpers. If you see two cars stick together with lots of water on the floor, it means there is a crash had just happened.

6. Headlight Wipers and Washer

If you do notice, there are still some cars on the road come with headlight wipers and washers especially European cars. Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and BMW are a few car brands that features headlight wipers. Are they really practical? I will leave the comment to those who used to drive a car with headlight wipers.

7. Wrist-Twist Steering System

In 1965, Ford brought Robert J. Rumpf, an aerospace engineer, to work on experimental auto designs. The Wrist-Twist steering system was what he came up with. Suppose it is to give the driver a better view of the road and a more comfortable driving experience. In certain situation, this wrist-twist steering system would make parallel parking easier but you should know this design is obviously failed.

8. Automatic Seatbelts

In late 1970s, automatic seatbelts was introduced. Toyota was the first car maker to make automatic seatbelts as standard on the 1981 Toyota Cressida. Automatic Seatbelts are attached to the door and it will automatically move into position around the driver or front passenger once the door is closed. You will definitely get frustrated with the automatic seatbelts if you were living in the early 80s.

9. Swivel Front Seats

The idea of having a swivel seat is to allow the driver or passenger to get in and out to and from the car easier. The 1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna Type S-3 is one of the most popular car that comes with two front swivel bucket seats.

10. Cars with Three Wheels

In 1973, a motorbike-look-alike car was introduced, the Reliant Robin. It looks like a bike but it also looks like a car, making it one of the weirdest old cars. It only has three wheels but the rest are a car. The biggest problem of this car is it actually flips over whenever it makes turns.
